The Philippine Embassy in Thailand on Friday expressed condolences following a deadly school shooting in Nonthaburi province, confirming that no Filipino nationals were harmed in the incident.

In a statement, the embassy extended its “deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences” to the families of the victims, the school community, and the Thai government after the shooting at Debsirin School Nonthaburi on Aug. 7.

Thai authorities said at least five teachers were killed when a 14-year-old gunman opened fire at the secondary school, marking one of the country’s deadliest school shootings in recent years. More than 30 people, including students, were reportedly injured.

Police said the suspect had earlier killed his grandparents at their home before carrying out the attack at the school.

The teenager later turned the gun on himself and died, according to officials. Authorities are still investigating how he obtained the firearm, which was reported to belong to his grandfather.

“The Philippine Embassy likewise prays for the speedy and full recovery of those who were injured,” the statement read.

The embassy said all eight registered Filipino teachers at the school have been accounted for and are safe and uninjured.

“The Philippines stands in solidarity with Thailand during this time of grief,” it added.

The embassy said it remains on standby to provide assistance through official channels and continues to monitor the situation closely.

The incident has also renewed concerns over gun violence in Thailand, which has one of the highest rates of civilian firearm ownership in Southeast Asia. The Thai prime minister has called for tighter gun control measures following the attack.
