Philippine sports officials have moved to strengthen the country’s baseball program following high-level discussions with the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA), as part of efforts to rebuild the sport’s competitive structure and facilities.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick C. Gregorio led the delegation that met with BFA officials in New Taipei City to discuss program development and potential strategic support from the Asian governing body.
He was joined by Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA) Vice President Manny De Castro, Secretary General Michael Asuncion, and National Academy of Sports Executive Director Francisco Diaz.
The delegation also conducted site visits to major baseball venues, including SanChong and Xinzhuang Stadiums, to study facility design, operations, and event management practices that could be adapted for local use.
The initiative comes as the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium undergoes full-scale rehabilitation, a key infrastructure project seen as central to revitalizing the sport in the country.
Officials said the long-term plan focuses on developing a structured baseball system from grassroots programs to elite competition, alongside improving playing facilities nationwide.
Gregorio and the delegation also met with Baseball Federation of Asia President and CTBC Chairman Jeffrey Koo Jr., who is also the owner of the CTBC Brothers baseball team, to explore possible collaboration aimed at strengthening Philippine baseball development programs.
The PSC and PABA said the engagements mark a step toward rebuilding the country’s baseball program through international cooperation and improved domestic infrastructure.
