The Philippines will finish with at least three medals in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio secured a podium finish in the Paris Games after she bested Xu Zichun of China, 5-0, on Sunday, August 4, and advances to the semifinals of the women's 57 kilograms division.
Aside from Petecio, fellow Filipina boxer Aira Villegas also secured a spot in the semifinals after she defeated Wassila Lkhadiri of France in the women's 50 kilograms division.
Petecio will face Polish boxer Julia Szeremeta in the semifinals on Wednesday, August 7 (Paris time), and a win will guarantee her at least a silver medal finish in the 33rd Summer Olympics.
During the previous Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan, Petecio won a silver medal in the women's featherweight division.
Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo kick-started the medal haul of the Philippines after he struck gold in the men's artistic gymnastics floor event.
