Firearms registered under the names of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio, had a combined estimated market value of ₱7,220,370, according to Police Maj. Joericson Sangalang during the 30th day of the impeachment trial on Monday, September 28.
Sangalang told the Senate impeachment court that firearms registered under Duterte’s name were valued at ₱2,184,550, while those registered under Carpio’s name were valued at ₱5,035,820.
Senate impeachment court Presiding Officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero asked Sangalang to provide the exact total after the witness initially said the firearms were worth more than ₱7.2 million.
“Kay Vice President Sara Duterte po ay 2,184,550. At kay Atty. Manases Carpio naman po ay 5,035,820,” Sangalang said.
Escudero then clarified whether the figures represented the actual acquisition cost of the firearms.
Sangalang confirmed that the amounts were based on market surveys of firearm prices, rather than the actual purchase prices.
Escudero pointed out that Sangalang had no personal knowledge of how much Duterte and Carpio actually paid for the firearms.
“Tama po, Your Honor,” Sangalang said.
Earlier in the hearing, Sangalang testified that 22 firearms were registered under Duterte’s name, consisting of 14 pistols, two revolvers, five rifles, and one shotgun. Three of her rifles were classified as Class A light weapons.
Sangalang also said 29 firearms were registered under Carpio’s name, including 16 pistols, two revolvers, one shotgun, and 10 rifles. One of Carpio’s rifles was classified as a Class A light weapon, while one firearm had an expired registration.
The firearms records were presented as part of the prosecution’s evidence under Article II of the Articles of Impeachment, which concerns allegations of “Unexplained Wealth, False SALNs, and Continued Business Interests.”
