Authorities arrested seven individuals and seized around 12,500 kilos of suspected “hot meat” worth ₱2.3 million in an operation in Brgy. Sta. Rosa 1, Marilao, Bulacan, on Wednesday, August 20.
PLTCOL Jordan G. Santiago, chief of the Marilao Police Station, reported that a barangay councilor and members of the Barangay Peacekeeping and Action Team (BPAT) spotted a wing van unloading suspected double-dead meat into a refrigerated van in the area.
Following the report to the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) and Marilao police, authorities recovered 435 boxes of meat. The confiscated products were initially brought to the Marilao Police Station before being turned over to NMIS for proper inspection and disposal.
The seven suspects are now under police custody and will face criminal charges for violating Republic Act No. 9296, or the Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines.
