Authorities and government officials have offered a ₱200,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the fatal shooting of Engineer Karen Corsino Del Valle of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Northern Samar 1st District Engineering Office.
In its official statement, the DPWH wrote, "The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) family mourns and condemns the fatal shooting of our colleague, Engineer Karen Corsino Del Valle.”
Secretary Vince Dizon and former congressman Paul Daza each pledged ₱100,000, totaling ₱200,000, for tips leading to the capture of Sgt. Jerome Lluz Tejero, the prime suspect. Del Valle’s brother, also attacked during the incident, remains in critical condition.
The siblings were reportedly on their way to a court hearing related to a Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) case Del Valle had filed against Tejero, who is affiliated with the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division. Law enforcement has launched a manhunt for Tejero, with checkpoints set up across Catarman and neighboring towns.
The DPWH and the Philippine Army have both condemned the act, vowing full cooperation with the police to ensure justice for Del Valle and her family.
