The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has identified persons of interest believed to be behind the online threats the President has been receiving, bureau Director Atty. Melvin Matibag said on Monday.

In a report by RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been receiving death threats on social media since political vlogger Mima Alicia was gunned down by men on a motorcycle.

While there are a multitude of online threats against Marcos, the bureau has gained access to intelligence about the users responsible.

Matibag declined to provide any more details on the matter due to the ongoing investigation.

“Mayro’n, marami, actually na-penetrate na namin, and I cannot give so much details because we are investigating it,” he told reporters.

The statement comes amid the NBI’s probe into the death threats made against Senator Risa Hontiveros following the pro-Marcos media personality’s death.

The NBI earlier discovered that the persons of interest to whom the “wave of death threats” and “pro-killing” remarks against the senator were traced belong to a group chat.

The NBI’s Cybercrime Division may issue a subpoena against these users.

Earlier, the Philippine National Police (PNP) disclosed that Alicia’s death may be connected to an alleged ₱8 million debt. They consider her case “closed.”
