The Senate of the Philippines confirmed that all personnel inside the chamber are “safe and sound” following a reported security incident involving individuals who allegedly attempted to enter the premises near the GSIS area on Wednesday evening.
According to Senate Secretary Mark Llandro “Dong” Mendoza, the combined security forces of the Philippine Marine Corps, the Office of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA), and Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel stationed at the Senate responded after unidentified individuals were perceived to be posing as National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents and attempted to breach the perimeter.
Mendoza said warning shots were fired as part of security protocol to deter and prevent unauthorized entry into the Senate compound amid the developing situation.
He assured that no injuries were reported in the incident and emphasized that all individuals inside the Senate were accounted for and in stable condition.
Authorities are currently coordinating with the NBI to verify whether any of its personnel were involved in the incident, while an internal review of the security response is also underway.
Senate leadership, including Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano, has been briefed on the situation as security operations continue to secure the area and ensure no further threats remain.
