The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday reported that security operations for the fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. were “generally peaceful,” with the overall peace and order situation under control.
In a statement, the PNP said it successfully carried out security measures from the start of the event through the conclusion of the president’s address, ensuring the safety of the chief executive, government officials, delegates and the public.
Police also said they respected the constitutional rights of individuals and groups to peacefully assemble and express their views.
Authorities monitored two major public assemblies along Commonwealth Avenue and in front of the Sandiganbayan and Commission on Audit in Quezon City, drawing an estimated combined crowd of about 6,000 participants.
While both gatherings were generally peaceful, police recorded isolated incidents in some areas.
A total of 39 individuals were arrested for alleged violations of the Quezon City Anti-Vandalism Ordinance, malicious mischief, Presidential Decree No. 1829 and provisions of the Revised Penal Code related to resistance or disobedience to persons in authority and disturbances of public order.
The PNP said the situations were promptly addressed by personnel on the ground, preventing any significant disruption to the overall security environment.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended the discipline and professionalism of police personnel deployed for the event, as well as the cooperation of the public.
He thanked citizens for helping maintain order while exercising their right to express their views peacefully, noting that incidents leading to arrests were handled in a calm and professional manner.
Nartatez also said police officers demonstrated discipline and dedication in carrying out their duties, adding that the force remains committed to fair law enforcement with respect for human rights and human dignity.
The PNP said the outcome of the security operations reflects its continued commitment to proactive and coordinated policing, aligned with its agenda to enhance police operations while safeguarding public safety and democratic freedoms.
Following the SONA, the police force said it remains committed to maintaining peace and order through responsive policing and community engagement.
