The Philippine Coast Guard has secured an unidentified object suspected to be rocket debris after it washed ashore in Barangay Babuyan Claro on Thursday, Aug. 6.

Coast Guard officials said the object was reported at about 12:30 p.m. by a local resident in Sitio Naydi. After being temporarily kept by the resident for safekeeping, the item was retrieved by Philippine Navy CAFGU personnel and turned over to the PCG.

Commodore Noemie Cayabyab, PCG spokesperson, said initial inspections by Coast Guard personnel revealed no markings confirming that the object is rocket debris.

"They secured the object in a safe location while awaiting further technical assessment by the appropriate authorities," Cayabyab said.

The PCG urged fisherfolk and coastal residents to avoid handling unidentified floating objects and to report similar sightings immediately to local authorities.

Authorities are coordinating with relevant government agencies to determine the origin and nature of the recovered object.

The operation falls under maritime safety initiatives aligned with the administration's Bagong Pilipinas vision, the Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) campaign, and the Organized National Engagement (ONE) at Sea strategic concept.
