A total of 8,827 passengers have been stranded across various ports in Bicol, Visayas, and Mindanao due to Tropical storm Ada, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported.

In a maritime safety advisory, the PCG indicated that from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on January 17, a total of 24 vessels and 7 motorbancas carrying passengers are stranded, while 3,089 rolling cargoes have also been affected.

Additionally, 72 vessels and 35 motorbancas have opted to take shelter until conditions improve.

The Philippine Coast Guard and the Department of Transportation are closely monitoring the situation, urging passengers to avoid unnecessary travel and prioritize safety amid the typhoon.

Authorities are coordinating with local ports to provide assistance and ensure stranded passengers are properly accommodated.

Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated through official channels and comply with safety directives as the storm continues to impact maritime operations in the region.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) tropical cyclone advisory, the center of Tropical Storm Ada was located approximately 95 kilometers east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 220 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

The Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 and 2 remains in effect over several parts of Luzon and Visayas.

PAGASA said ADA is expected to weaken into a tropical depression by the afternoon or evening of Tuesday, January 20, due to the northeast monsoon surge.
