The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recorded more than 370,000 passengers passing through ports nationwide on April 2, as authorities intensified monitoring under “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos” for the Semana Santa and summer vacation rush.
In a report released on Friday, the PCG said it logged 183,517 outbound passengers and 191,350 inbound passengers across all ports in the country.
The agency also reported that 16 PCG districts conducted inspections on 2,026 vessels and 2,179 motorbancas to ensure maritime safety during the peak travel period.
The PCG has placed all its districts, stations and sub-stations on heightened alert from March 28 to April 5 to manage the expected influx of travelers during the Holy Week break.
Meanwhile, in the early hours of April 3, the PCG monitored more than 23,000 passengers from midnight to 6 a.m. alone. Of these, 11,418 were outbound passengers while 11,677 were inbound.
During the same period, coast guard units inspected 153 vessels and 70 motorbancas across various ports.
Authorities advised the public to coordinate with the PCG through its official Facebook page for inquiries, concerns and clarifications regarding sea travel protocols and regulations during the holiday and summer travel season.
