About 60 families were evacuated from flood-affected communities in Sarangani province after heavy rains inundated parts of Maasim town Thursday night, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

In a statement, the PCG said its personnel immediately responded to flooding in Purok Riverside, Barangay Kablacan, Maasim on July 23 after monitoring and verifying the situation through a Facebook Live video posted by a concerned citizen.

Members of the Coast Guard Disaster Response Group carried out evacuation assistance upon arrival, helping residents move to safer areas as floodwaters continued to rise.

Authorities also deployed personnel from Coast Guard Sub-Station Colon to Kumaba Bridge in Barangay Kanalo, which became temporarily impassable due to strong rains and elevated water levels, to ensure public safety.

The PCG said a total of around 60 families, or about 240 individuals, were safely evacuated. No casualties or injuries were reported.

The response forms part of the agency’s Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response and Enforcement (iCARE) campaign, which aims to strengthen community services during disasters.

Coast Guard personnel remain on standby and continue monitoring operations and evacuation assistance in affected areas to ensure the safety of residents, the agency added.
