The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed that two of its personnel were arrested during an entrapment operation conducted by the Puerto Princesa City Police Office in Barangay Liwanag, Puerto Princesa City, on June 18.

In a statement released on Thursday, the PCG identified the suspects as an Ensign and a Petty Officer Third Class assigned to the Provost Marshal Unit-Palawan.

According to PCG Spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab, the operation stemmed from a complaint involving alleged extortion.

The suspects were brought to Police Station 1 in Puerto Princesa City for documentation and further investigation.

Cayabyab emphasized that the PCG maintains a “zero tolerance policy” against any form of misconduct and remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability in service.

“We continue to cooperate with the Philippine National Police as the investigation progresses, and appropriate actions shall be pursued in accordance with existing regulations,” Cayabyab said.

She added that the Coast Guard has initiated a parallel investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish any liability under existing Coast Guard policies.
