President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will be announcing the members of the independent commission, who will be conducting an investigation into the anomalous flood control projects, within the next two days, he said on Tuesday.
“Tomorrow or the day after, within the next 48 hours, I will already announce the powers that we are granting to the independent commission and the members of the independent commission,” Marcos said during a press conference with Philippine media in Cambodia.
He added that the commission may be given both contempt and subpoena powers.
Earlier, the President said an Executive Order (EO) would be issued for the formation of the independent probe body, which will be working separately from the government.
The panel will be composed of either a justice or a lawyer, an investigator, and a forensic accountant who will be sourcing information from various government agencies, particularly the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Commission on Audit (COA).
After the probe, Marcos said, they will be submitting their findings to the Department of Justice (DOJ) or the Ombudsman for the filing of appropriate charges.
