President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. announced on Monday, April 13, the suspension of excise taxes on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and kerosene, alongside directives to reduce tariffs on imported food, as part of the government’s efforts to ease the financial burden on Filipino households.

The move coincides with an expected oil price rollback on Tuesday, April 14. According to the President, the suspension will result in a decrease of ₱3.36 per kilo of LPG—equivalent to about ₱37 per tank—and ₱5.60 per liter of kerosene.

In the press briefing, Marcos said: "Binawasan natin ang buwis sa produktong petrolyo na direct ang ginagamit sa pang-araw-araw na buhay… sa ilalim ng kapangyarihan na binigay sa atin ng batas, tinanggal ko na ang excise tax sa LPG at sa kerosene"

The President explained that the measure is backed by authority granted by Congress, which took effect on April 14, allowing the government to intervene amid rising fuel costs.

Beyond fuel relief, Marcos also ordered the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Tariff Commission to lower tariffs on imported food products to help stabilize supply and bring down market prices.

"Inutusan ko na ang Department of Agriculture at saka yung Tariff Commission, pababain ang taripa sa mga inaangkat na pagkain," he added.

The combined measures aim to address inflationary pressures, particularly on basic commodities and household expenses, while ensuring more affordable access to food and energy for consumers.
