President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored the vital role of the media in combating fake news and disinformation during the oath-taking of new officers of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) held at Heroes Hall in Malacañang on Wednesday, March 18.

In his speech, Marcos highlighted the responsibility carried by journalists in delivering accurate information, especially amid the growing spread of misinformation on digital platforms. He emphasized that a free and responsible press remains a key pillar in strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring an informed public.

“Bilang lingkod bayan na halos araw-araw na humaharap sa media, naunawaan ko ang bigat ng inyong trabaho. Hindi madaling magtanong, mag-ulat, at maglahad ng katotohanan lalo na kung may panganib ang nakaagipat nito," the President said, as he acknowledged the risks faced by media practitioners in the line of duty.

“And that’s why this administration has made it clear that the safety and welfare of our journalists must be protected at all times,” he added, reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding press freedom and journalist security.

The event marked the formal induction of KBP’s new leadership, with the organization continuing its role in upholding standards in Philippine broadcasting. The Palace said the administration remains committed to working with media groups to address disinformation while promoting responsible journalism and protecting press workers across the country.
