President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to suspend one-way schemes and clear all obstructions along major roads and highways to ensure seamless travel during the Holy Week break.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon announced the directive, noting that the move aims to expedite the commute for thousands of Filipinos heading to the provinces while helping motorists save on fuel consumption amid the expected holiday influx.

“Kailangan ngayong Holy Week, sabi ng Pangulo lalo na ngayon talagang nagtataasan ang presyo ng gasolina tsaka ng diesel, yung traffic ngayong mahal na araw [dapat] free-flowing.”

The DPWH is set to coordinate with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) to strictly enforce the "no-obstruction" policy. This includes the immediate removal of stalled trucks and illegally parked vehicles along key arterial roads.

Authorities are keeping a close watch on traditional bottlenecks, specifically along MacArthur Highway in Mabalacat City, and Jose Abad Santos Avenue in San Fernando, Pampanga

These routes serve as primary arteries for travelers heading to Northern and Central Luzon and historically experience the highest traffic volume during the Lenten season.

The administration stated that these measures are part of a broader effort to provide the public with an organized, safe, and efficient travel experience as the country observes the religious holidays.
