President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is open to being investigated by the Independent Commission on Investigation (ICI) if there is credible evidence against him, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said on Tuesday.
Interviewed in DZRH's Dos Por Dos, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized that the ICI was designed to conduct independent investigations, and no one—not even the President—should be exempt if wrongdoing is proven. She stressed, however, that the President maintains he has no involvement in any alleged irregularities.
"Kung mayroong ebidensya ba't naman hindi? Kaya nga po ginawa ang ICI para maging independent. Pero mismo ang Pangulo, alam niya na wala siyang kinalaman sa ano mang anomalyang ito?," said Castro.
Castro compared the current situation to the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, noting that numerous so-called “ghost projects” were reported during his term but were not investigated on a large scale.
She urged Filipinos, including media members, to support the ongoing investigations to ensure those truly responsible are held accountable.
Meanwhile, on allegations made in videos by Zaldy Co., Castro said witnesses must come forward in person to substantiate claims. She assured that Co would receive protection if he returns to the Philippines to testify and take an oath regarding his statements.
According to Castro, personal testimony is necessary to verify claims and prevent unverified allegations from being given undue credibility.
“Umuwi po siya dito, panumpaan niya dahil hindi maaaring bigyan ng anumang credence o anumang saysay, halaga, ang isang taong nasa video lamang, walang pinanumpaan, maaaring mag-name drop,” she said, adding that such a process ensures the truth is properly established.
