President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. advised Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla not to take part in corrupt practices, the secretary revealed on Thursday.
Remulla responded when asked how much the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) officials were offering him that he would have easily received up to ₱1 billion.
“The only thing, ‘yung factual na masasabi ko, sinuhulan ako… Bibilhin namin noon, 200 fire trucks, so ₱1.5 million times 200: ₱300 million for one year. So kung sumakay lang ako sa sistema nila, easily, ₱900 million to ₱1 billion ang pupunta sa’kin. Easily,” he said.
The Interior secretary said he didn’t have the heart to involve his five children in corruption by providing for them with ill-gotten money.
“Pero si Pangulong Bongbong mismo nagsabi sa’kin niyan, ‘Alam mo ‘yung pera sa nakaw, ‘di po puwedeng pakain sa anak mo ‘yan. Ang karma, lalabas sa anak mo,’ Wala sa dibdib ko, na lima anak ko, na ipapakain ko sila ng pera na galing dito sa korapsyon,” he shared.
The DILG is set to charge 45 BFP officials, including suspended Fire Chief Jesus Fernandez, with multiple cases in connection with anomalies in firetruck procurement.
