Passengers of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) were stranded on Wednesday morning, June 25, after the train line experienced a technical problem.
In its initial announcement, LRT-2 management said the scheduled 5:00 AM opening was delayed to 6:00 AM for trips between Recto Station to Antipolo Station.
Later on, the management announced that it would implement provisional service due to the ongoing technical issue. It said train operations would begin at 7:00 AM but would be limited only between Recto Station and Araneta Center-Cubao Station.
According to a report by Edniel Parrosa, passengers rushed to board alternative transportation in Antipolo. Many clung to already full vehicles or squeezed themselves in just to secure a ride.
Most of the affected commuters were students and employees. Some took buses, others rode jeepneys, while some opted to book motorcycle taxis. Many of them were headed to Quezon City and Manila.
As of this writing, only trips between Recto and Araneta Center-Cubao stations are operational.
