The Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) has officially opened passenger cooling rooms across all its stations to provide relief for commuters experiencing discomfort due to the intense heat.

In a social media post, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced that the cooling rooms were made available starting May 4 as part of efforts to ensure passenger comfort and safety amid rising temperatures.

The initiative also aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to improve commuting conditions in public transport systems.

The cooling rooms are open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and may be used by passengers holding valid tickets, particularly those experiencing symptoms of heat-related conditions such as dizziness, headaches, or general fatigue.

Priority access will be given to senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and pregnant women.

To accommodate more passengers, usage of the cooling rooms is limited to 30 minutes to one hour per person. The LRTA also clarified that the facilities are intended strictly for temporary relief and should not be used as resting areas or loitering spaces.

Officials emphasized that the cooling rooms are part of ongoing measures to enhance commuter welfare and provide immediate assistance to passengers affected by extreme heat conditions while traveling via the LRT-2 system.
