Pasig City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 71 issued a cyber warrant allowing authorities to examine the electronic devices of Peanut Media Gallery Network (PMGN) founder Franco Mabanta and four others, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said.

The warrant authorizes investigators to open and forensically analyze the group’s confiscated gadgets, including mobile phones, according to NBI Director Melvin Matibag.

“That means we can now open Franco Mabanta’s phone and, legally, we can obtain information — videos, pictures, text messages, text logs, everything,” Matibag said.

The NBI earlier said it is looking into whether there are other possible victims or attempted extortion activities linked to the group, apart from former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Investigators are also set to examine an alleged 90-minute video exposé said to be in Mabanta’s possession involving the lawmaker.

Authorities have yet to disclose further details on the scope of the probe or possible charges as the digital examination proceeds.
