The Pasig City Government has officially inaugurated five electric minibuses to strengthen its Libreng Sakay (Free Ride) Program during a ceremony held on March 23.

Each e-minibus has a seating capacity of 22 passengers and can accommodate up to eight additional standing commuters per trip. Managed by the City Transportation Development and Management Office (Pasig Transport), the vehicles will initially operate along a single route—from Caruncho Avenue to the Temporary Pasig City Hall and back.

The procurement of the electric minibuses cost nearly PHP20 million, or roughly PHP4 million per unit, reflecting the city’s investment in sustainable and accessible public transportation.

Key city officials attended the inauguration, including Mayor Vico Sotto, Roman Romulo, and Robert Jaworski Jr., alongside members of the 12th Sangguniang Panlungsod.

In his remarks, Sotto emphasized the timeliness of introducing electric public vehicles, noting that they provide much-needed relief to residents amid rising transport costs driven by the ongoing oil crisis.

The event concluded with the blessing of the units led by Rev. Fr. Andy Pacoli.
