The City Government of Pasig marked its 81st Liberation Day on February 19, 2026, with a solemn ceremony honoring the bravery of Pasigueños who fought and sacrificed their lives during World War II.
The commemoration began with a water salute at the Bantayog ng Kagitingan along Caruncho Avenue in Barangay San Nicolas, followed by a program at the monument of Lope K. Santos. City officials led by Mayor Vico Sotto and Congressman Roman Romulo were joined by members of the 12th Sangguniang Panlungsod, veterans’ groups, civic organizations, youth representatives, and history educators.
Descendants of the Hunters-Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) guerrillas shared stories of courage and resistance. Jesus Terry Adevoso recounted his father’s role as a Hunters-ROTC commander and highlighted Pasig’s strategic importance in the guerrilla intelligence network that helped Filipino forces defeat Japanese troops along the so-called “Symbol Line” stretching from Taguig to Rizal province between 1942 and 1945.
In his message, Romulo urged the establishment of more memorials and historical markers in key barangays such as Bambang, Rosario, and Ugong to preserve the legacy of Pasig’s wartime heroes.
Mayor Sotto pledged continued local government support to ensure that the stories of valor are passed on to future generations, stating, “Kabalikat n’yo po ang inyong lokal na pamahalaan para ma-immortalize ang mga kuwento ng ating mga beterano, ng ating mga gerilya na lumaban para sa ating kasarinlan, sa ating kalayaan, para sa ating bayan.”
The event also featured performances by the Pasig City Symphonic Band and the Rizal Technological University Grand Alumni Association Inc. Singers. The 81st Liberation Day program was organized by the Cultural Affairs and Tourism Office in partnership with various city departments and national government agencies.
