The Aquino Bridge in Tarlac City has been closed after sustaining damage from continuous rain and strong water flow in the Tarlac River, the local government said.

“Ang Aquino Bridge ay sarado po dahil sa pinsalang dulot ng tuloy-tuloy na pag-ulan at malakas na daloy ng tubig sa Tarlac River,” the local government said in an advisory early Saturday.

The city government also temporarily closed the Sitio Molave Y-junction in Barangay San Isidro to trucks, heavy equipment and buses heading toward the bridge.

The road will remain open only to residents, authorities said.

The closure was implemented to ensure the safety of motorists and maintain an orderly flow of traffic following the collapse of a portion of the Aquino Bridge on Friday.

The local government said it has coordinated with various agencies monitoring the damage and assessing the condition of the bridge.

“Nakipag-ugnayan ang Pamahalaang Lungsod sa iba't ibang ahensya na tumututok sa pagbagsak ng bahagi ng Aquino Bridge dulot ng malakas na daloy ng tubig,” the Tarlac City Government said in a statement.

Authorities are also conducting continuous monitoring and assessment of the Agana Bridge, which will now serve as the primary route for motorists.

Motorists are urged to wait for further advisories regarding alternative routes and to cooperate with authorities implementing traffic and safety measures in the area.

The city government said public safety remains its top priority as monitoring and coordination continue.
