Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan on Monday seconded Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri’s motion to strike out from Senate records the video Senator Imee Marcos showed during her privilege speech, which made claims against the minority senators.
“Clearly, this information has no place in this Chamber. Sowing in intrigues has no place in this plenary hall. Fake news has no place in his plenary hall,” Pangilinan said.
As the former Senate Constitutional Amendments Committee chairperson, he refuted the video’s claim that the minority senators were planning to pass a bill seeking Constitutional changes.
“The records will speak for itself. Sabi nga nila, we should seek the truth from the facts, and not disinformation video propaganda,” he said.
“What are the facts? From August 12 until May 11, the Committee on Constitutional Amendments never held hearings on constitutional change. That in itself is proof that this haka-haka, this conspiracy to amend the constitution for whatever reason—self-serving, term extension, ‘No-El,’ etc. These are lies. The Senate did not entertain charter change under my watch as chairman,” he explained.
Earlier, Senator Marcos declared she was opposed to alleged efforts to extend government officials’ terms, amending the 1987 Constitution, which she said was written against her family.
“Hindi ko inaakalang aabot sa punto ng buhay ko na ako, isang Marcos, magtatanggol (sa) 1987 Constitution, isang saligang batas na isinulat laban sa aming pamilya,” Marcos said, emphasizing the irony of her position as a Marcos defending the prevailing Constitution.
