Sen. Kiko Pangilinan is pushing for a ₱15-billion supplemental fund to support relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts in areas affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8.

In an online statement, Pangilinan said Senate Bill No. 2259 proposes a ₱15-billion supplemental appropriation for fiscal year 2026 to fund recovery programs in quake-hit provinces, including areas near Sarangani, which was among those affected by the offshore tremor.

He said the measure seeks to strengthen government response across key sectors, including agriculture, education, health, housing, infrastructure, energy, transportation, and social welfare, as communities continue to recover from widespread damage and displacement.

The proposal allocates funding to multiple agencies, including the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and other national agencies, as well as affected local government units.

“Ang prayoridad natin sa gitna ng sakunang ito ay ang kapakanan ng ating mga kababayan sa Mindanao—na sila ay maging ligtas, magkaroon ng sapat na tulong mula sa gobyerno, at nawa’y makabalik muli sa kanilang normal na buhay at hanapbuhay sa pinakamadaling panahon,” the statement said.

Pangilinan said the supplemental funding is intended to provide both immediate assistance and long-term recovery support, emphasizing the need to help residents rebuild homes, restore livelihoods, and return to normal conditions as soon as possible after the disaster.
