Senator Francis 'Kiko' Pangilinan on Friday underscored the importance of technology, innovation, and good governance in building climate-resilient and food-secure communities during the 10th ClickConEx: Convergence of Luzon ICT Champions and Exhibitions Leadership Dialogue in Naga City.

The event gathered information and communications technology (ICT) leaders, innovators, local government executives, academic institutions, investors, and development stakeholders to discuss how digital transformation can help address challenges posed by climate change and food security.

Joining Pangilinan in the discussions were former Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Bam Aquino, and Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong, along with representatives from ICT councils, startups, and development organizations across Luzon.

In his message, Pangilinan emphasized that the future of communities depends on the effective use of science, data, and technology to create more efficient and inclusive governance systems.

At present, digital tools are already benefiting farmers and fisherfolk through early warning systems, real-time weather updates, and market information accessible through smartphones, he added.

The senator noted that digital transformation in the country's food systems is already underway, but stressed the need to expand these innovations to rural and underserved areas.

He called for stronger internet connectivity in the countryside, enhanced agricultural extension services, integrated data systems for food security and climate response, and closer collaboration among local governments, the national government, academe, and the private sector.

“Food security is not the responsibility of a single sector alone—it is a shared responsibility of the entire nation,” Pangilinan said.

He added that harnessing ICT and innovation can help create a Philippines that is better prepared for climate-related challenges, supported by a stronger agricultural sector and improved access to food for Filipino families.

Pangilinan also thanked Naga City and its partners for advancing initiatives aimed at building a smarter, more resilient, and more inclusive future for the country.
