Over 1,000 sandbags will be deployed at a damaged portion of the tail dike in Minalin, Pampanga, as authorities work to protect communities from possible further flooding.

The provincial government will place the sandbags along the damaged section of the tail dike as a precautionary measure and to help ensure the safety of residents who could be affected if the structure deteriorates further.

The Pampanga Police Provincial Office also conducted a sandbagging operation Sunday, Aug. 30, along the Minalin-Guagua Dike.

Acting Provincial Director Col. Ricardo M. David led police personnel in placing sandbags as part of efforts to prevent possible overflow and mitigate the impact of flooding in the area.

The operation was part of the police's continuing disaster response and flood mitigation efforts amid persistent rains and flooding in parts of Pampanga.

Authorities earlier enforced a forced evacuation in seven barangays in Minalin following a dike breach early Sunday.

The affected communities were Sta. Rita, San Pedro, San Nicolas, Sto. Rosario, San Francisco 1 and 2, and Sta. Catalina.

Minalin Mayor Philip Naguit warned that floodwaters had reached the town center and urged residents in affected areas to evacuate immediately.

Authorities continued to monitor the damaged dike and flood conditions as efforts to reinforce the structure and protect nearby communities were underway.
