Quezon City will host the 2027 Palarong Pambansa, bringing the country’s premier multi-sport event for student-athletes back to the National Capital Region.
Thousands of young athletes from across the Philippines are expected to compete in the annual sporting meet, which gathers the nation’s top student-athletes in various disciplines.
Palarong Pambansa Secretary-General Malcolm Garma said coordination with the Quezon City government is already underway, including preparations for the formal turnover of hosting duties.
“We already officially communicated with the city government of Quezon City,” Garma said.
“I think the delegation from the Quezon City government will be coming for the turnover of the Palarong Pambansa banner during the closing ceremony,” he added.
The announcement comes as competition continues in this year’s edition, where over 13,000 student-athletes have gathered to participate in what is considered the most prestigious grassroots sporting event in the country.
As of 8 a.m. Friday, the National Capital Region (NCR) leads the partial overall medal tally with 36 gold, 25 silver, and 30 bronze medals.
Region 4-A (CALABARZON) follows in second place with 27 gold, 25 silver, and 21 bronze medals, while Region 6 (Western Visayas) sits in third with 16 gold, 15 silver, and 16 bronze.
Earlier, the Philippine Sports Commission announced a historic incentive package worth P10 million for medalists, marking the first time cash rewards will be given to winners of the Palarong Pambansa.
The 2027 edition in Quezon City is expected to further boost grassroots sports development while showcasing the capital region’s capacity to host large-scale national sporting events.
