Malacañang will investigate the source of a fake memorandum circular that was circulating on social media announcing the suspension of in-person work in government offices and classes for August 17.

The spurious document directed government offices in the National Capital Region (NCR) and 12 provinces to shift to alternative work arrangements due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon or Habagat.

In a press conference on Monday, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said authorities would determine where the fake memorandum originated and take appropriate action against those responsible.

Castro said the country has been “battered” by fake news.
