Malacañang on Thursday, June 4, reaffirmed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s commitment to the passage of the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Bill, following the approval of a version of the measure in the House of Representatives during the First Regular Session of the 20th Congress.
During a Palace press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the President will carefully review the versions from both chambers of Congress once the legislative process is completed.
She emphasized that the proposed measure remains one of the administration’s legislative priorities, adding that President Marcos has long pushed for the enactment of an Anti-Political Dynasty law during his term.
Castro also dismissed criticisms questioning whether the president would sign the bill into law due to his family’s long political background.
She further revealed that the president personally raised the measure during a meeting of the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC), where he urged lawmakers to prioritize its passage.
The House-approved version of the bill seeks to prohibit relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity from simultaneously holding or running for public office.
