Malacañang said the recent leadership changes in the Senate are in accordance with the law and the rule of law, following the assumption of Sen. Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian as Senate Pro Tempore and Acting Senate President.
During a Palace press briefing on June 3, Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized that the executive branch respects the decision of the Senate’s new majority leadership.
“Ang nangyari sa Senado ngayong hapon ay naaayon sa batas at rule of law. Kinikilala at nirerespeto ng Palasyo ang desisyon ng bagong mayorya at ang liderato ni Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian,” Castro said.
Gatchalian’s assumption comes amid a series of leadership realignments in the upper chamber, including the election of new committee chairpersons and his designation as Senate President Pro Tempore before taking on the role of acting Senate chief.
The Palace reiterated that it recognizes the independence of the legislative branch and will continue to work with the Senate in fulfilling its constitutional duties.
