Malacañang said on Thursday that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has "no hand" in any move to change the leadership of the House of Representatives.
The statement came amid persistent reports claiming that the Palace is eyeing Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno to become the next House Speaker, barely three months after Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III assumed the post.
During the press conference, Palace Press Officer Usec. Atty. Claire Castro maintained that any decision regarding House leadership rests solely with the members of Congress.
“Ang pagpili po kasi ng liderato ng Kongreso ay wala naman po sa kamay ng Pangulo. Kung ano po ang kanilang magiging desisyon diyan, kung ano ang kanilang pagiging pagpapatakbo diyan, hindi po yan saklaw ng Pangulo,” Castro said.
“Nasa kanila 'yan kung ano 'yung nais nilang gawin sa House of Representatives,” she added.
When asked whether Marcos was exerting influence or pushing for Puno to take over, Castro was firm: “Wala po akong nakikita at wala pong ganun.”
Earlier, Puno denied what he called baseless rumors that he was set to replace Dy, dismissing the chatter labeled “Bojie out, Ronnie in.” He stressed that as one of the Chamber’s leaders, he fully supports Dy and his leadership in the 20th Congress.
Dy, a member of the President’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, ascended to the speakership only three months ago following the resignation of Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez, who stepped down amid controversy over an alleged flood control scam involving several lawmakers.
RH Milky Rigonan reported, despite Dy’s recent installation, some legislators have claimed he lacks broad support within the House and may be serving only in a temporary capacity. Others argue that the administration—facing what they describe as mounting political challenges—needs a strong Speaker with solid backing from the majority to help stave off any potential impeachment attempts against Marcos.
Puno, meanwhile, chairs the National Unity Party, a key political bloc in the House.
