House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos has dismissed as “fake news” allegations that the Malacañang played a role in the House of Representatives’ move to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte.
Marcos stressed that the Palace neither issued directives nor intervened in the House leadership’s handling of the impeachment proceedings against Duterte. According to him, the lawmakers serving as prosecutors are capable and experienced enough to manage the case independently.
“We all know Chair Jinky (Luistro) is the head prosecutor for the public prosecutors, and she's done a great job in steering and managing the impeachment in itself. So I don't think it's necessary for the leadership to intervene or have any directives to them. They're all brilliant in their own way. So I think just leave them be and let them do what they have to do,” Marcos said.
The House Majority Leader also expressed confidence in Lead Prosecutor Gerville "Jinky Bitrics" Luistro, saying she has effectively guided the prosecution team and is capable of leading the case through the impeachment trial process.
Marcos further backed the House prosecution panel’s proposal to use the Filipino language during the impeachment trial, arguing that doing so would allow ordinary Filipinos to better understand the proceedings and issues surrounding the case.
The statement comes amid continued speculation that the Palace may have influenced the impeachment process. However, Marcos maintained that the House prosecutors are acting on their own judgment and expertise, emphasizing that no intervention from the executive branch is necessary.
