Malacañang on Thursday pushed back against Vice President Sara Duterte’s claim that the ongoing conflict in the Senate reflects the leadership of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s administration.

In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President remains focused on addressing national concerns, including the global oil crisis and the recent earthquake in Mindanao, while Duterte continues to criticize the administration.

The Palace official made the remarks after Duterte said the conflict in the Senate reflects Marcos’ leadership and lack of direction.

Castro argued that while Marcos remains focused on governance, the Vice President continues what she described as efforts to “attack and alter the narrative” against the administration.

She also reiterated that President Marcos did not order the shooting incident that occurred at the Senate on May 13.

Una, to change the leadership. Pangalawa, for the impeachment,” Castro said.

Castro added that those alleging the administration was behind the chaos in the Senate were the same individuals calling for the dismissal of the impeachment case.

Ang dalawang sinabi nating senador ay kaalyado ng Vice President,” she said.

She maintained that the unrest in the Senate was not a reflection of weak leadership within the administration.

Asked whether the Palace was concerned that the ongoing Senate gridlock could affect the impeachment proceedings, Castro said the administration’s primary concern is the observance of due process and the rule of law.
