Malacañang is considering imposing stiffer penalties and higher fines on individuals caught illegally disposing of garbage as part of the government's efforts to address flooding and promote environmental cleanliness.

During a press conference on Monday, Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro said the administration continues to implement measures aimed at mitigating floods, including the regular cleaning of waterways and encouraging responsible waste disposal among the public, according to a report of RH Leth Narciso.

According to Castro, the Palace remains concerned over the continued practice of indiscriminate garbage dumping, citing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that captured individuals throwing trash into creeks and from the windows of moving vehicles.

She appealed to the public to become more responsible in disposing of waste, saying that those who cannot participate in cleanup efforts should at least refrain from contributing to the problem.

She also urged the public to cooperate in keeping communities clean, stressing that proper waste disposal is a shared responsibility.
