Malacañang has declared March 20, 2026, a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Fitr, the Islamic festival that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The announcement was made by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., allowing Muslim Filipinos to properly celebrate the religious occasion.

The declaration enables Muslim communities across the country to observe the holiday through prayers, family gatherings, and other religious traditions following a month of fasting and reflection during Ramadan. Eid’l Fitr,, also known as the “Feast of Breaking the Fast,” signals the start of the Islamic month of Shawwal.

President Marcos Jr. made the announcement during a Grand Iftar gathering in Malacañang attended by Muslim leaders and community representatives, highlighting the government’s recognition of the importance of the celebration to the country’s Muslim population.

The nationwide observance of Eid’l Fitr as a regular holiday is mandated under Republic Act No. 9177, which institutionalized the celebration of the first day of Shawwal as a regular holiday in the Philippines.
