Malacañang on Wednesday called it “unacceptable” for Vice President Sara Duterte to anticipate the possible resignation of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
In a press conference, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and Palace Press Officer Usec. Atty. Claire Castro criticized Duterte for suggesting she is ready to assume the presidency if Marcos were to step down.
“It is not acceptable for a vice president to anticipate the resignation of the President. Presidente na pinagsisigawan nilang bumaba sa puwesto," Castro said.
"This is definitely a form of political destabilization,” she added.
According to Castro, Duterte’s statements undermine "public confidence" in the administration and contribute to a "climate of uncertainty and crisis" in the country.
When asked if the President is fit to lead and in control, Castro affirmed his capability.
“Of course.
Castro also challenged the public to consider whether they are prepared for more political turmoil should Duterte act on her stated readiness to take over the nation’s highest office.
“Ang tanong natin sa taumbayan handa na po ba kayo sa mas marami pang Mary Grace Piattos?” she said.
On Tuesday, Duterte expressed her readiness to become president if Marcos resigns or is removed from office.
“There is no question about my readiness,” the Vice President said.
