The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) continues to monitor Tropical Storm Tapah (international name; formerly Lannie), which remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of Sunday, September 7.

As of 8:00 a.m., Tapah was located 650 km west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h and gusts of up to 105 km/h, while moving slowly westward.

The system exited PAR at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, just six hours after developing into a tropical depression.

Before leaving PAR, the weather disturbance brought moderate to heavy rains of 50 to 100 millimeters over Pangasinan.

As a low-pressure area (LPA), it also triggered scattered rains and thunderstorms across the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley. No tropical cyclone wind signals were raised over any part of the country.

Lannie was the Philippines’ 12th tropical cyclone this year and the second for September, following Tropical Depression Kiko, which also exited PAR quickly.

PAGASA expects two to four tropical cyclones to form or enter PAR this month.
