The DOST-PAGASA on Sunday, May 24, said the low pressure area (LPA) previously being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has already dissipated, but another weather disturbance east of southern Mindanao continues to be monitored.

According to PAGASA weather forecaster Veronica C. Torres, the LPA was last spotted at around 3:00 a.m., approximately 2,195 kilometers east of southern Mindanao.

PAGASA said the weather system remains unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 to 48 hours. However, its trough or extension continues to bring rains over parts of Mindanao and nearby areas.

Rainy weather is expected over Palawan due to the trough of the LPA, while Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening.

The state weather bureau also warned residents in areas that have been experiencing continuous rains, particularly in Mindanao, Southern Leyte, and Eastern Samar, to remain alert for possible flooding and landslides.

PAGASA said rainy conditions may persist over Palawan until Monday, while southern Palawan could continue to experience rains by Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the trough of the LPA is expected to continue affecting Mindanao, Southern Leyte, and Eastern Samar through Monday. By Tuesday, rains may be concentrated over Mindanao, with the western section of the region possibly experiencing rainy weather by Wednesday.

Despite the rains in some areas, high heat index levels are still expected across parts of the country.

PAGASA recorded a heat index of 43°C in Metro Manila on Saturday, while the highest heat index reached 48°C in Sangley Point, Cavite.

For Sunday, the heat index in Metro Manila may range from 43°C to 44°C, while Dagupan City in Pangasinan, San Ildefonso in Bulacan, Sangley Point in Cavite, and San Jose in Occidental Mindoro may experience up to 46°C.

No gale warning has been raised over any coastal waters of the country, PAGASA added.
