A low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), currently located over the coastal waters of Dumaran, Palawan, is expected to bring cloudy skies and scattered rain over parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Friday.
In an interview on DZRH's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas, PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said there is a low chance that the weather disturbance will develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
Instead, the LPA is expected to continue moving westward toward the West Philippine Sea (WPS), where it may gradually weaken and dissipate.
Its effects may include cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, thunderstorms, and lightning over parts of the Visayas, Southern Luzon, the Bicol Region, Mimaropa, Batangas, Quezon, Northern Mindanao, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Some areas in Mimaropa may continue to experience cloudy conditions due to the LPA.
Meanwhile, generally fair weather is expected in Metro Manila and most other parts of the country.
PAGASA said the chances of rain in Metro Manila are relatively low in the morning, although the public is advised to remain prepared for possible localized thunderstorms in the afternoon.
As of 3 a.m., the weather bureau is also monitoring Severe Tropical Storm with an international name Dujuan outside the PAR.
Dujuan, formerly designated as LPA 09d, was last located about 2,460 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kilometers per hour.
The storm is moving northwestward at 55 kilometers per hour and is not expected to enter the PAR or directly affect the country.
PAGASA said generally fair weather is expected to prevail through the weekend, although a weak southwest monsoon or habagat may affect parts of the country.
The agency said no strong rains similar to those experienced in previous months are currently expected.
There is also no gale warning in effect, allowing sea travel to continue under generally favorable conditions.
By the weekend, the LPA may have dissipated, but the weak southwest monsoon could still bring some rain to Western Samar and other parts of the Visayas.
