Two areas in the country are expected to experience “danger-level” heat index conditions on Wednesday, April 8, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Based on the weather bureau’s two-day heat index forecast, San Jose in Occidental Mindoro may reach a heat index of 42°C, while Dumangas in Iloilo is projected to hit 43°C.

Wednesday will mark the fifth consecutive day that Dumangas has recorded a danger-level heat index, after peaking at 46°C on April 4. Meanwhile, San Jose is set to experience its third straight day under the same classification.

Several other areas across the country are also expected to endure high heat index levels:

PAGASA classifies heat index values between 42°C and 51°C under the “danger” category. At this level, individuals are at high risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The agency warned that heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely, while heat stroke becomes probable with prolonged exposure.

Meanwhile, heat index levels ranging from 33°C to 41°C fall under the “extreme caution” category. Under these conditions, heat cramps and heat exhaustion may occur, and continued physical activity in the heat could lead to heat stroke.

The weather bureau advised the public to take necessary precautions, including limiting outdoor activities, staying hydrated, and seeking shaded or cooler environments to prevent heat-related illnesses.
