Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao was honored at the World Sports Summit in Dubai in late 2025 in recognition of his historic career and lasting contributions to international sport.
Pacquiao received the Global Outstanding Sporting Career Award on December 29 from His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, President of the Gulf Youth Games, and Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation.
The awarding ceremony was witnessed by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, underscoring the significance of the recognition bestowed on the Filipino boxing legend.
In his acceptance message, Pacquiao dedicated the award to all those who continue to dream despite moments of doubt and discouragement.
He emphasized that life’s battles are fought not only with fists, but with heart—one that has the power to unite people beyond borders.
The World Sports Summit, themed “Uniting World through Sport,” marked Dubai’s first global gathering of elite athletes and sports industry leaders.
Pacquiao’s award recognized not only his unprecedented boxing achievements—highlighted by world titles in eight different weight divisions—but also his humanitarian efforts and influence beyond the ring.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed noted that Dubai firmly believes in the positive role of sport in shaping a better future for society, adding that honoring Pacquiao reflects how discipline and dedication can inspire people around the world.
Pacquiao also took part in a panel discussion alongside heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, where he shared his journey from poverty in the Philippines to becoming a global sports icon.
The honor came just weeks after the World Boxing Council (WBC) named Pacquiao as its Fighter of the Century, further cementing his legacy as one of the greatest figures in the history of boxing and world sport.
