Authorities seized P41 million worth of illegal drugs concealed in several inbound parcels at the Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay City.

Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno personally inspected the confiscated shipments on Friday, July 17, according to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort on MBC Media News Network.

Nepomuceno said authorities intercepted 39 parcels containing various illegal drugs, including marijuana, ecstasy, kush, and shabu (crystal meth).

The parcels originated from India, the United States, Germany, Spain, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

Authorities discovered that the illegal drugs had been concealed inside food items, bags, jewelry, children's books, toys, and Christmas decorations in an apparent attempt to evade detection.

Nepomuceno said the names of the listed consignees were likely fictitious, but authorities would still pursue those responsible for the smuggling attempts.

"Tukoy naman ang mga consignee ‘yung addresses nila, shippers subalit malamang sa malamang ito ay mga peke na mga panagalangan," Nepomuceno said.

The BOC is coordinating with its counterparts in the countries of origin to identify the individuals behind the shipments and determine the exact source of the illegal drugs.

An investigation is ongoing to identify all persons involved and to prevent similar attempts to smuggle illegal drugs into the country.
