by Jim Fernandez10 October 2025

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) is currently monitoring developments following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that occurred in Manay, Davao Oriental, on Friday, October 10.

The OVP’s Southern Mindanao Satellite Office (OVP-SMSO) is ready to offer its assistance to any local government unit (LGU) in need of relief for evacuees.

The office also suggested that psychological first aid, to ease anxiety and fear, especially in children, be sought after. It also reminded locals to keep their Go Emergency Bags—packed with essentials like food, bottled water, medicines, and clothing—at hand, in anticipation of aftershocks that may follow.

“We will continue to pray for the Philippines and anticipate coordination efforts to support the local communities,” the OVP said.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the earthquake struck at 9:43 a.m., with a depth of 23 kilometers.
