The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has appointed Atty. Ruth Castelo as its new spokesperson.
"Effective July 9, 2025 Atty. Ruth B. Castelo shall be the official Spokesperson of the Office of the Vice President. Daghang salamat," the OVP announced.
Castelo's appointment comes after several months of the OVP operating without a spokesperson, following the departure of Atty. Michael Poa in November 2024.
From 2018 to 2023, Castelo served as undersecretary at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
In a press briefing, Castelo clarified that she was not personally invited by Vice President Sara Duterte to take the position. Instead, she applied on her own initiative.
"Actually it was no convincing from the part of Vice President or her staff..., I actually submitted an application for any position for anything that I can do to help the Office of the Vice President and I'm fortunate that I was given this trust and confidence," said Castelo.
Castelo added that the OVP has made significant strides in providing basic services to Filipinos over the past three years, and she intends to highlight these accomplishments.
On the other hand, Poa is among the lawyers expected to appear in the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Duterte.
