Over 9,000 passengers were affected by a series of flight cancellations and diversions to the Middle East between February 28 and March 2, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reported, amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
According to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, more than 40 flights were either canceled or rerouted, this includes 10 flights by Philippine Airlines and 9 flights operated by Etihad Airways.
These affected routes include flights serving Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Riyadh, Hamad and Kuwait, said CAAP.
The agency assured the public that it is closely monitoring flight operations while the airspace over the Middle East remains closed.
CAAP Director General Raul Del Rosario said that passenger safety remains their top priority amid the conflict.
He added that the agency has already implemented proactive measures, including continuous coordination with airlines, airport authorities, and international aviation partners.
CAAP also advised affected passengers to contact their respective airlines directly for rebooking options, refunds, and updated flight information.
