7,213 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers have been stranded at ports across the Philippines due to the impact of Super Typhoon Uwan, RH Boy Gonzales reports.
According to a Maritime Safety Advisory from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), issued between 4:00 AM and 8:00 AM, a total of 156 ports and wharves in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao have been affected by the severe weather.
The PCG reported that 3,663 rolling cargoes, 171 vessels, and 28 motorbancas were not allowed to sail, while 541 vessels and 185 motorbancas temporarily took shelter in safe areas.
The Bicol Region recorded the highest number of stranded passengers and cargo, with 2,590 passengers and 1,145 rolling cargoes, followed by Central Visayas with 991 passengers, and Western Visayas with 995 passengers.
The Philippine Coast Guard continues to monitor the situation at the ports and urges travelers not to attempt to travel while strong waves and winds caused by Super Typhoon Uwan persist over the West Philippine Sea.
